Can any1 explain this? Also, it is a non-caching drive and telling EAC that it caches almost certainly reduces the chances of getting an accurate rip from a bad disc.

Did the test include the use of PlexTools with the Plextor drives? This is the old popular AZO-Blue dye, dark blue. Or do I just have a messed up drive?
This drive often does better ss00e C2 enabled although C2 performance isn't anywhere near as good as other drives like my PXA. At least Verbatim makes some of the prettiest media in the world, if not the best. After several trials I now have no doubt that the one and only speed at which this drive yields best results is 40X.
The SB media checker says this media is audio-only and rates it at 12x. This media carries no speed rating on the package.

Cyanine, Azo, etc Capacity: It does best with the speed set to I notice that it slows down to 8X whenever it encounters a read error. Is this controlled by the firmware? I mention these other two settings because I believe the improvement in accuracy may also be related to the extraction speed. However if I forced a reading speed, I got inferiour results.
That is to say it remains excellent even when its firmware slows down the speed. Also I want to know if all Lite-Ons behave like this or is this a freak thing?
